Early-Victorian Cast Iron Grate
An absolutely outstanding early-Victorian cast iron insert made by Carron and Co. in Stirlingshire. This was one of Carron’s special fires shown at the Great Exhibition. The birds nest grate demonstrates the cleverness of the designers and craftsmen. Organic tendrils entwine around the arch and terminate in a pair of Arum lillies. From a large house in Edinburgh.
